Kansas Medical Center Switches to Electronic E.D. Record-Keeping in Record Time
COFFEYVILLE, KS, August 26, 2002. A recent installation of the CodoniX E.D. Coding and Charting Solution was up and running after just ten days at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center — a process that could easily require a month or more with other systems.
A rapid start-up was not entirely unexpected according to Coffeyville Information Systems Director, Doug Stacy, who points out that "we looked at several different systems and the reason we chose CodoniX was because our medical staff thought it would be the easiest to install."
Medical staff were equally impressed by "the logic it utilized in creating and coding charts and its ability to read physician and nursing notes directly into the documentation."
Developed by an E.D. physician to mirror the mental process clinicians already use to triage and treat their patients, the CodoniX System is today's premiere solution for streamlining the E.D. Proven at numerous hospitals and hospital systems nationwide for the past seven years, it creates a 100 percent accurate patient chart in real time complete with CMS-compliant codes.
Stacy states that "we were nervous about getting the physicians on board at the beginning, but the peer-to-peer training CodoniX uses made a big difference. Having physicians train physicians and nurses train nurses helped the System gain acceptance. Now everyone is really pleased with it."
The Coffeyville Center also anticipates a rapid return on its investment as a result of the CodoniX System's coding efficiency. "Our coding documentation now supports a higher level of reimbursement than it did before which was an area where we'd been having a lot of problems."
Depending on their previous level of coding efficiency, other hospitals have reported increases in overall collections of up to 30 percent using the CodoniX System while simultaneously enhancing their risk management.
As a Level III Emergency Department serving patients throughout a catchment area that includes Southwestern Kansas and Northeastern Oklahoma, Coffeyville Regional Medical Center is currently undertaking a building project that will include a new E.D.
"With our new facility, we'll be able to serve more patients more efficiently," Stacy adds, "and the nice thing about the CodoniX System is that as we grow, it can grow with us, giving us the capability we need to handle a higher patient load."
Headquartered just outside of Washington, D.C. in Herndon, Virginia, CodoniX, Inc. (www.codonix.com) is a privately-held company with a proprietary technology that can be accessed on a local area network or via the Internet to accurately build and code a computerized physician's notes without using complex menus and rigid templates. These notes reduce errors and dramatically increase collections and cut administrative costs associated with dictation, transcription, coding and copying. Other medical specialty documentation applications are currently under development for cardiology, orthopedics, obstetrics/gynecology and family practice.
