Codonix Software Streamlines Emergency Department Care at Memorial Medical Center
HERNDON, VA, August 8, 2001. Emergency visits are less of a pain at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, thanks to a technology solution from CodoniX, Inc., a medical software company that develops and distributes applications that capture clinical data from the physician-patient encounter.
The CodoniX system, which has been installed in eight other emergency departments elsewhere in the U.S., is enabling emergency department staff to accurately document every aspect of a patient visit with an easy-to-use computer program that replaces written charts, dictation and transcription. The software accurately mirrors work flow while increasing physician productivity, and it is rewarding staff and the facility with enhanced revenue resulting from better compliance with insurance requirements.
At Memorial Medical Center the software helps prioritize actions to avoid bottlenecks. This results in less waiting for the 65,000 patients who visit the emergency department or the walk-in clinic each year. A paperless medical documentation system moves patients through the department more efficiently, leading to an easier discharge.
"With the CodoniX system it's easier to track and triage patients, insurance reimbursement has improved, and the physicians are doing less paper work and more patient work," said William Einig, MD, Emergency Department Medical Director at Memorial Medical Center.
Using CodoniX, as each patient makes his or her way through the emergency department, clinicians have immediate access to fundamental patient history and the most current charting and test results. During the process they enter information in real time into a computer, capturing all procedures and diagnoses while accurately documenting the patient encounter. At the conclusion of the visit, the entire record is verified by clinicians, saved electronically in a hospital database, and complete discharge instructions are printed and waiting for the patient when he or she is ready to go home. Care delivery and documentation are directly linked to coding and reimbursement processes, which begin within minutes of discharge.
In addition to Memorial Medical Center, CodoniX software has been installed in emergency departments at Columbia Reston Hospital Center, Reston, VA; Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA; Harris Hospital, Newport AR; Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, KY; Holy Cross Medical Center, Silver Spring, MD; O'Connor Hospital, San Jose, CA; Phoebe Putney Medical Center, Albany, GA; and Sinai Samaritan Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.
Headquartered just outside of Washington, DC, in Herndon, Virginia, CodoniX, Inc. is a privately-held company with a proprietary technology that can be accessed on a local area network or via the Internet to accurately build and code a computerized physician's note without using complex menus and rigid templates. These notes reduce errors and dramatically increase collections and cut administrative costs associated with dictation, transcription, coding and copying.
