CodoniX, Inc. Names William H. Boles CEO as it Installs New Management Structure to Gear up for Rapid Growth

HERNDON, VA, July 26, 2001. CodoniX, Inc., a medical software company that develops and distributes applications that capture clinical data from the physician-patient encounter, has named William H. Boles as its president and chief executive officer, replacing Andrew Muchmore, MD, who will continue to serve as chairman and chief technology officer.

Boles's appointment was made in conjunction with other management moves as the company prepares to greatly expand installation of its proprietary software product in hospital emergency departments nationwide.

The new CEO comes to CodoniX from Quantum Corporation, where he served as vice president and general manager of its Branded Products Division, a $250 million division specializing in DLT tape storage solutions. Previously, he was vice president of sales and marketing for Olympus America, following a twenty year tenure at Hewlett Packard Company, where he held a variety of engineering and marketing management positions in the U.S. and Europe.

"Currently our CodoniX product is gaining phenomenal acceptance at the nine hospital emergency departments where it is currently installed. Because our proprietary technology is well-developed and has been shown to work, we are poised to become the standardized encounter tool for any type of medical visit," Boles said. "In addition, by licensing our encounter technology to existing hospital systems and other healthcare software vendors, CodoniX can leverage its huge proven medical knowledgebase and exceedingly rapid and intuitive development tools to become 'The New Language of Medicine.'"

"I am very excited to have Bill on board full-time to set the agenda and guide us as we move from single-digit installations into the thousands in the near future," said Muchmore, who founded CodoniX in 1995 and who served as its first CEO. His new role as chief technology officer will enable him to devote more time to new product development. Boles was an early investor in the company and was a member of the board of directors before accepting the job as president and chief executive officer.

In another management move, CodoniX has created the new position of vice president, clinical services. Mary Frances Smoak, MD, MBA, will hold that title.

Headquartered just outside of Washington, DC, in Herndon, Virginia, CodoniX, Inc. is a privately-held company with a proprietary technology that can be accessed on a local area network or via the Internet to accurately build and code a computerized physician's note without using complex menus and rigid templates. These notes reduce errors and dramatically increase collections and cut administrative costs associated with dictation, transcription, coding and copying.
