Unity Physician Group installs CodoniXnotes in second of seven Immediate Care Centers
Indianapolis, IN - July 17, 2007 Unity Physician Group (UPG) a physician-owned and physician-led healthcare organization specializing in emergency and urgent care medicine recently installed CodoniXnotes in the second of its seven Immediate Care Centers.
UPG is one of the largest providers of emergency and urgent medical services in Indiana. Founded in 1971, the group currently staffs ten emergency departments in Indiana and Kentucky in addition to their seven Immediate Care Centers in Indiana. Unity provides practice management and billing services to all of their Immediate Care facilities from a fully HIPAA compliant central data center at their headquarters in Bloomington, Indiana. All patient follow up, and reminders are also done from this centralized customer care center.
CodoniXnotes has also greatly improved the registration process. Patients are registered in UPGs existing practice management software application and an HL7 interface automatically populates the patient chart with demographic information and the patient is placed on the CodoniXnotes tracker board. Patient identification, insurance information, and any required HIPAA documents are scanned into the system and attached to the patient chart. Lab tests and results are electronically forwarded to the patient chart, and the result is a completely electronic patient record. Automated reminders on the tracker board indicate if all required documentation has been obtained.
Wireless tablets as well as PCs are used to add information throughout the encounter. Medical Assistants enter the patient’s chief complaint and clinical data such as vital signs, allergies, current medications and relevant medical history. Physicians document the visit during the encounter or after seeing the patient. Documenting the visit is easy to do and provides more flexibility than templates resulting in a complete, more narrative chart. It also captures all relevant ICD-9, CPT and diagnostic codes. The resulting chart helps physicians consistently capture more complete information about the encounter and its acuity which results in the ability to bill for all services that were provided during the visit. Lynn Schenck, VP Operations says that “The CodoniXnotes system provides opportunities to improve workflow and patient care in our Centers as well as improve billing and cash flow. We are looking forward to transitioning more of our sites to CodoniXnotes in the coming months.”
In addition, the CodoniXnotes system ensures that the patient’s medication list is charted and readily available for review for future visits or can be communicated to the next provider of service when UPG refers or transfers the patient to another practitioner or level of care outside of the UPG organization.
CodoniXnotes provides an enterprise wide solution that further automates UPG’s billing process. Treatment and diagnostic codes for the encounter are sent electronically to UPG’s coding staff along with a copy of the actual patient chart. The appropriate codes are selected and are then automatically sent via an HL7 interface to UPG’s billing system which calculates, and electronically bills the payor or generates a patient statement. Ms. Schenck went on to say that “Our billing process is streamlined which improves our cash flow.”
